TREDYFFRIN TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS) — A woman was attacked while running on a Main Line trail.
The woman, according to police, had actually stopped to help a man who claimed to be injured.
Instead, police say, he tried to drag her into the woods near the Treyburn development in Wayne.
“We consider her a hero and she is completely responsible for saving her own life,” Sgt. Ryan Scott said.
Tredyffrin Police are now on high alert after the victim says she had to fight for her life trying to fend off her attacker.
“She made eye contact with him and he said, ‘Could you help me?’ As she went over to help her, which most of us would probably do, that’s when he grabbed her by her hand and her leg and threw her to the ground.” Scott explained. “Right now we’re very alarmed and trying to find out who it was.”
Police say it happened around 3 p.m. Monday along a jogging trail that runs through a residential development off Devon Park Drive. The victim told police her attacker tried to drag her off the trail, but she managed to fight him off and run away.
“Right now it’s either a tan white male or a Hispanic male with a stocky or muscular build. He also had a very large pronounced maybe six or seven inch scar on one of his calves which she described as a pronounced scars or marks from stitches,” Scott said.
Police add the suspect is described to be in his 30s or 40s.
The victim suffered minor injuries.
Superintendent Anthony Giaimo commented, “This is an extremely unfortunate case and I commend the victim for her personal strength throughout this event and investigation process. Significant resources are being utilized in this case to apprehend this criminal. We have had a number of positive leads which detectives and officers are diligently working on around the clock. We also thank Upper Merion Police and Radnor Police for their assistance and input in this investigation.”
