Discount Wedding Gowns Benefit Cost-Conscious Brides, Breast Cancer Patients

By Hadas Kuznits

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Deeply discounted wedding dresses are up for sale tonight and tomorrow at a hotel in Philadelphia's historic district.

Brides Against Breast Cancer is making a stop at the Wyndham Hotel in Old City, part of its nationwide tour of charity wedding gown sales.

"We have hundreds of deeply discounted couture and designer wedding gowns, about 25 to 85 percent off retail price here," says show manager Mya Widmyer.  "Eighty percent of the proceeds go to fund free programming for cancer patients and their families."

She says that while some brides are attached to that dream dress, "We're finding a lot more are more attached to their budgets.  So, they're willing to spend a little bit less (on a gown) so they can splurge elsewhere."

And, Widmyer adds, if you'd like to donate a dress, you can drop it off at the Wyndham Hotel, 4th and Arch Streets, through Saturday afternoon.
