Philadelphia Woman’s Response To ‘Anonymous And Contemptuous’ Letter Reportedly Sent To Grandparents’ House Goes Viral

By Chelsea Karnash

OCEAN CITY, NJ (CBS) – It’s passive aggressive at best, downright rude at worst. And now, it’s gone viral on Facebook.

The note reads: “I am trying to sell million dollar homes in the neighborhood. I drive my clients around and they see your car parked sideways on the front lawn! You have a driveway – use it!”

Stephanie Powley, of Philadelphia, says the anonymous letter, supposedly written by a real estate agent from an unknown agency, was mailed to her 80-year-old grandparents’ home in Ocean City earlier this week. She penned an online response back that’s getting a lot of responses on social media.

In her own response to the letter, Powley bashes the writer’s “sloppy, hand written, unprofessional, anonymous and contemptuous note,” arguing that her grandparents have lived in the neighborhood for years and that her grandfather parks his car on the yard to be closer to his front door.

Powley, 30, also doesn’t hold back on the insults, calling the supposed agent “pretentious,” a “coward” and other unmentionable names before closing with “Shame on you!”

And she told CBSPhilly that her grandparents are “very understandably upset and now feel as though they are being ‘watched.’”

So far, the purported letter – and Powley’s response – has received more than 500 shares on Facebook as well as a post on Ocean City Patch.
