Flooding Closes Brooklawn Circle In South Jersey

By Jim Melwert

BROOKLAWN, N.J. (CBS) - A flood watch is in effect until tomorrow morning, but there are already some problems as some heavy rains overnight caused flooding on area roads. Three drivers had to be rescued after getting stuck in flood waters on a notoriously flood-prone road in South Jersey.

Darleen Corgliano was on her way home from work heading north on Route 130 from Woodbury but when she came around the bend by the Brooklawn Circle.

"The way the rain was and the glare it was just right, I saw the water at the last minute," she says by that time it was too late, her Jeep Cherokee was already floating.

"Somebody else tried to come through also and they created a current and that's when the water just flooded in a tipped me forward."

She says she didn't know what to do, whether to try to open the door or to stay put.

Although it is said repeatedly during flooding situations, drivers are reminded to not attempt to drive through any standing water. The saying goes: "turn around, don't drown."

She says a township truck backed in and she was able to climb out of her window into the back of the truck.

The waters receded by around 7am, but not before two other cars also got stranded in the water.
