WEATHER BLOG: Unsettled Weather Ahead

By Justin Drabick

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - After a very pleasant weekend with sunshine and temperatures in the 70s on Saturday and 60s on Sunday, enjoy one more day with sunshine before cool and wet weather returns.

Clouds will start to increase during the day on Monday, but conditions will still be very pleasant with highs a few degrees below average in the mid 60s.

A blocking pattern in the jet stream, which is fairly common this time of year, has developed.  A slow moving storm system, currently in the center U.S. will impact us for the rest of the week.  Showers will arrive on Tuesday and a cool wind flow off the ocean will keep high temperatures well below average in the low to mid 50s.  Steadier rain will arrive for Wednesday with highs still cool in the 50s, but a warm front will move through later during the day allowing for milder air to return late week.  As the warm front moves through, some sunshine is possible on Thursday allowing for high temperatures to reach the low to mid 70s.  However, there will still be a chance of some showers, especially early in the day.  Overall rainfall amounts by the end of the week could exceed 2".

The upper-level portion of the storm system will slowly move over the region Friday & Saturday.  The cooler air aloft will keep clouds around the mid-Atlantic with still a scattered shower possible, especially on Saturday.  High temperatures will stay in the 60s Friday and Saturday.
