Delco SPCA To Celebrate National Adopt-a-Shelter-Pet Day With Ceremony, Name Your Own Price Adoption Fees

MEDIA, Pa. (CBS) – The Delaware County SPCA is celebrating National Adopt-a-Shelter-Pet Day with pick your price adoption fees for all animals and a remembrance ceremony for pets in shelters worldwide.

National Adopt-a-Shelter-Pet Day is Wednesday, Apr. 30th, and the organizations says heart-shaped brass tags will be hung on a special "Remembrance Tree" planted on the shelter grounds on Earth Day.

Anyone can purchase a tag for $5 as a way to honor or remember a current or former pet or merely to honor the lives of pets living in shelters. All of the funds raised will support the Delco SPCA's Humane Investigations Program.

Those looking to adopt a pet can pick their own price, too, the organization says.

On a sadder note, the SPCA will invite the public to take part in a 4 p.m. ceremony that includes a moment of silence for the 9,000 dogs and cats euthanized each year that are unable to find homes.

The Delco SPCA is located in Media and adoption hours are noon to 7 p.m. To see a list of animals available for adoption, visit: delcospca.org/adopt-a-pet/meet-our-pets.
