PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Chaka Fattah Jr., the son of Philadelphia Congressman Chaka Fattah joined Chris Stigall Tuesday morning on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT to discuss the pending federal investigation into his business activities and the counter lawsuit he has filed against federal authorities.

Fattah maintains he is the target of a politically motivated prosecution and has suffered damages as the result of the press coverage the case has garnered.

“I believe there was a media leak by either, the Department of Justice, IRS or FBI, regarding the action they took, the raid at my apartment and office back in February, 2012 and I believe that was a violation of the law. I believe that due process [and] the presumption of innocence are very important things and that any taxpayer who has never been arrested or charged with any crime should not have their small business and income taken from them.”

He asserted that all his business interests have been legitimate

“All my contracts that I received are above board and I had no problem with any type of inspection into them and I think that the government’s heavy handed tactics…were unnecessary.”

Fattah explained that his motivation for counter suing is that he has done everything he’s been asked and still has no idea why he is being investigated.

“The reason I filed the lawsuit, I have nothing to hide. I don’t believe anyone in my family has anything to hide. I’ve spent hundreds of thousands on legal fees responding to subpoenas and government requests. As we sit here today, I have not been charged.”

He thinks the authorities in Washington should re-examine their tactics in this case and admit the harm they’ve caused.

“I think the national office of the Department of Justice should take a close look at the allegation in my lawsuit, which I believe are clear cut truths. They leaked the information to the media that they were going to come to my apartment in February of 2012 and that’s not right no matter who my dad is…I don’t think that anybody should be subject to the situation I’ve been subject to. I’ve lost relationships [and] business.”
