Boater Remains Missing In Bucks County

By Mike Dougherty

BRISTOL, Pa., (CBS) -- One man is missing and presumed dead after he was knocked from his boat on the Delaware River in Bucks County Friday afternoon. Authorities suspendend the search at sundown Friday night and will resume at daybreak.

It was about 1 p.m. when police say a man in a small red and white speed boat tried to jump the wake of an oncoming tug boat. He crash landed and was ejected from the vessel, knocking off a piece of glass on the port side on his way out.

"When he came down and he landed -- when the boat landed I should say -- enough force would cause him to be ejected and he could have slammed into that (the glass) and it could have rendered him unconscious," New Jersey state trooper Vincent Mancuso said.

"It is a recovery mission at this point. We exhausted every possibility to try to locate him -- aviation and side scan sonar."

Mancuso says witnesses reported seeing the boater go under and never resurface.

A life vest was picked up a short distance away. It's unclear if that vest belonged to the missing man.

When police recovered the boat, the throttle was still engaged.
