Serial Rapist Sentenced, Confronted With Emotional Carnage He Caused

By Tony Hanson

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A 30-year-old Philadelphia man has been sentenced to at least 35 years in prison for a series of rapes.

In three of the four cases, he targeted women on the street in savage attacks, and the court has now heard of the devastating impact on one of the victims.

Matthew Jones admitted to raping the women only after he was arrested in 2012. DNA linked him to a total of four attacks dating back to 2007.

The victims were all beaten, and one was raped at gunpoint in front of her little son. This victim spoke in court, and says Jones ruined her life:

"I am scared to walk down the street," she said. "I constantly feel like someone is coming to attack me and that I am going to be hurt. I constantly feel like that. Even at home, I feel like someone is going to come into my house and rape me and hurt me."

But she feels some comfort in the prosecutor's assurances Jones will very likely never be free again.
