Person Fatally Struck By Train In Delaware

NEWPORT, Del. (CBS) -- A pedestrian was struck and killed by a train in Delaware Tuesday morning.

The deadly incident happened at about 11:55 a.m. on the train tracks near Meco Drive in Newport.

According to Amtrak officials, the 2153 Acela Express Train traveling between Boston and Washington southbound struck a trespasser.

The individual was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the victim was not immediately known.

There were 150 passengers aboard the train at the time and they were eventually transferred to another train. The train was delayed approximately one hour.

The deadly incident remains under investigation.
