Local College Student Runs Sweet Business Out Of Dorm Room

By Hadas Kuznits

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Special event cakes are becoming a big business and one young college student is running a cake business out of her dorm:

Twenty-year-old Natalie Galvez began baking four years ago:

"It started from a birthday cake that I didn't like and so for my 16th birthday I decided I wanted to make my own cake," she tells KYW Newsradio. "And so I started reading up on it and when it came out everyone was very impressed with it."

Soon after, she started her business, Natalie's Cake Creations, and got her first taste of dealing with wedding cake customers:

"I mean at first I would be scared too if a 16-year-old was making my cake but I guess work puts forth what you do and so I showed them what my work was and what I could do and what I couldn't do and they were very impressed."

These days, she balances the demands of her cake business with being a sophomore at Villanova University:

"I don't have a car so everyone just comes and picks them up from my dorm!"

She says people even come to her dorm to get wedding cakes, which she admits can be a little bit odd sometimes.
