Freddy Galvis Hospitalized With A Staph Infection

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - It hasn't been a good couple of days for the Phillies bench.

After Darin Ruf went down with an oblique strain on Thursday that will require an MRI, shortstop Freddy Galvis has been hospitalized with a staph infection in his leg, the team announced Friday.

Galvis is expected to be placed on the disabled list, and is not likely to be available on Opening Day.

Manager Ryne Sandberg has said he's liked what he's seen in Galvis, and started him in place of Jimmy Rollins during three consecutive games this Spring.
