Weekend Box Office Report: 300 Sequel Rises To the Top
By Bill Wine
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The year's tenth box office weekend went pretty much as expected with the two new attractions vying for first place.
The historical military epic sequel, 300: Rise of an Empire, led the way by earning an estimated $45-million, which gave it the top spot on its first weekend of release.
The runnerup was the new animated comedy, Mr. Peabody & Sherman. It took in $33-million.
Rounding out the top five were holdovers Non-Stop, last weekend's leader, with $15-million; followed by The LEGO Movie with $11-million; and Son of God, with $10-million.
Overall, industry-wide totals were slightly below those of a year ago.
