Get Away From Winter At Flower Show

By Phran Novelli

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Here we go – it's time for the Flower Show and it's safe to say most of us are ready for a facefull of flowers by now. This year's theme is art and horticulture, which is a fun starting point for exhibit designers but, whatever the theme, besides a break in the cabin fever, lots of us who go to the Flower Show are really just desperate for ideas we can use in our own gardens.

As you stand back and admire overviews of massive displays you could never recreate at home, remember to step in and note all the clever ways to play with plants that you may never have thought of before. Snap pictures to remind yourself how to do things on a small scale in your own yard – combining plants so their colors and textures make each other look even better; massing perennials and bulbs for better effect; fun ways to prune shrubs, plant a wall, or fill and arrange containers to change the look of your outdoor space.

So, go to the Flower Show for a one-day getaway and come home with ways to get your garden in shape this spring after all its been through this winter.
