NEW HOPE, Pa. (CBS) – The Bucks County Playhouse is reaching out to a Philly fan favorite for a concert tomorrow night they hope will help ease people’s winter blues.
Leslie Uggams is making her debut at the Playhouse, but the Philadelphia region has been very good to her. The last time she was here (2007) she broke house records at the Prince Music Theater for the musical “Stormy Weather” about Lena Horne.
This time, she says it’s classic Uggams. It’s all about the music and the stories behind the music.
“I’m very enthusiastic about new music, old music — whatever. I still got the chops. As Louie Armstrong used to say, ‘you gotta have the chops, baby.’”
Her career has spanned Broadway, Hollywood and concert stages over more than six decades. How does she stay relevant and attract new audiences? Uggams says she keeps reinventing herself and even though she has a Tony and an Emmy she doesn’t rest on her laurels and looks for new challenges.
