Police Investigate Attempted Abduction Of 9-Year-Old Girl In Hunting Park

By Natasha Brown

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia Police are investigating an attempted abduction of a nine-year-old girl in Hunting Park.

A trip to a neighborhood corner store turned into a frightening ordeal for a little girl.

Store surveillance video shows the child with the pink jacket leaving the corner store in the 3700 block of N. 5th Street.

She crosses the street, and in the shadows, you see a man walking along the sidewalk.

The next thing you see is a terrified girl running back to the store for help.

"She was crying," a witness said.

"The little girl was crying, she was inside the store crying," another witness said.

Police say the man may have grabbed the girl's arm.

This 15-year-old boy, who didn't want to be identified, says he tried to comfort the nine-year-old victim.

Neighbors sprang into action, chasing down the suspect, holding him until police arrived.

"I just told her to calm down, I'll be back, and I went after him," the 15-year-old said.

Police do have a suspect in custody.  He is being questioned at the Special Victims Unit.

No arrest has been made at this time.
