PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Ryne Sandberg reiterated what Cole Hamels and Ruben Amaro have already said: Cole Hamels’ arm trouble is not anything to be worried about.

“He’s just slightly behind the others pitchers, so that’s just eliminated him from pitching opening day,” Sandberg told Angelo Cataldi and the 94WIP Morning Show on Tuesday. “Other than that, it’s not a concern at all. He’s going about his business, getting his drills in. He’s throwing every day, he’s just as the stage of building his arm, but just slightly behind the other pitchers.”

Amaro has said previously that his concern about Hamels’ biceps tendonitis rates at a “2” on a scale of 1-10. Hamels himself did not seem concerned either.

Still, Sandberg, like Hamels, has realistic expectations for his recovery.

“He will not pitch opening day,” Sandberg said.
