Top Canine In New Jersey Nabs More Than 60 Bad Guys
By David Madden
PHILADELPHIA (CBS)--There's a new top dog in New Jersey, at least in the crime fighting world and this canine, who patrols the city of Camden, is a record setter.
He's a 10-year-old black Czech shepherd named "Zero" and he's nabbed 66 bad guys, mostly for drug offenses, along with his handler, Sergeant Zack James, over the last six and a half years.
The old record, 64, was held by a retired police dog from Atlantic City.
Camden County Metro police Chief Scott Thomson says Zero gets more than a pat on the head
"He takes him to McDonalds and Zero enjoys a 20 piece Chicken McNugget for every arrest he makes."
The pair is also popular with kids in schools. All it takes is a word from James, and Zero is as playful as a dog could be.
Thomson says that helps to build bridges within the community.
