BENSALEM, Pa. (CBS)— A man is arraigned in Bucks County after a hit-and-run that sent a 14-year-old to the hospital.

Police say the suspect tried leaving the scene in the 2100 block of Street Road but other drivers blocked him from leaving.

No words from 26-year-old George Colbert moments being arraigned on hit-and-run charges.

Bensalem Police responded to the accident scene shortly after 11 a.m. in the 2100 block of Street Road.

Several teenagers were walking along the shoulder of the road when Colbert allegedly lost control of his car, hit a snow embankment and then hit a 14-year-old boy in the group.

“One of the pedestrians jumped out of the way, however, another pedestrian, a 14-year-old boy, was unable to get out of the way and was struck by the vehicle,” Sergeant Andrew Aninsman said.

Police say thankfully there were several witnesses along the extremely busy roadway who got involved, blocking the driver in until police arrived.

“After the vehicle had hit the pedestrian, the driver of the vehicle allegedly got out of his vehicle, look behind him for an unknown reason got back into his vehicle and began driving eastbound on Street Road,” Aninsman said.

The 14-year-old boy was rushed to the hospital with multiple broken bones. The driver from Northeast Philadelphia will now face felony charges for allegedly trying to flee the scene of an accident.

“Fortunately, there were several witnesses that were there who saw this, saw the vehicle attempted to flee, and actually boxed the vehicle in right by the McDonald’s on Street Road just off of Hulmeville Road,” Aninsman said.

The boy is in stable condition at Aria Health Torresdale Campus. Meantime the driver is currently facing hit-and-run charges and other related offenses.
