Glencairn Museum To Host Medieval Event

By David Madden

PHILADELPHIA (CBS)--A little known museum in Bryn Athyn will host a special event Sunday that offers young and old a taste of life when Kings and Queens really did rule the world.

The Glencairn Museum is housed in what used to be the private home of the Pitcairn family. Built in the 1920s, the home looks like a castle. So curators for the past decade have put together an annual Medieval festival to help show off their religious art collection.

Museum spokeswoman Joralyn Echols says students at nearby Bryn Athyn College also work on the event, which features music, demonstrations and something called a "pilgrimage tour."

"It is mimicking going on a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostella in Spain. It's a journey that medieval Christians would have made."

The event is scheduled from 1-5 p.m. Tickets are 8 dollars, 6 dollars for seniors and students and are available at the door.
