Molly Schuyler Talks Wing Bowl Win, Promises To Defend Her Title
Sports Fan Insider
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Molly Schuyler was only the second woman to win Wing Bowl in its 22 year history, and she set a record while doing it. Her 363 wings eaten in the 30 minute competition earned her the $22,000 prize, and headlines across the country.
She’s not done yet.
“I’ll be there. I’ll be there,” Schuyler told Angelo Cataldi and the 94WIP Morning Show on Tuesday, when asked if she’d return to Philadelphia to defend her title at Wing Bowl 23.
The obvious headline matchup, would pit Schuyler against previous Wing Bowl record holder, Takeru Kobayashi, who won Wing Bowl 20 with 337 wings eaten.

“Yeah, sure [I want to go against Kobayashi]. A competition is a competition. I don’t mind losing. I came in prepared for this content, and I thought I was taking third and that’s my honest to God—a lot of these people were all talking their talk,” Schyuler said. “I still would have been OK if I would have lost. That’s OK. Money is not that important if you’re not happy, but you know, I’m glad I won. It’s cool!”
Schuyler did have some serious competition, beating the first runner up, Patrick Bertoletti by fewer than 10 wings. Bertoletti finished with a count of 356 wings, which also broke Kobayashi’s record. Wing Bowl 21 champ Jamie “The Bear” McDonald took third with 304 wings eaten.
She was unsure of what she got herself into, but Wing Bowl ended up being a positive experience for Schuyler.

“I mean, I didn’t want to leave (Philadelphia) but there was a pancake bowl and there was a bacon fest on Saturday in Des Moines [Iowa], so I was able to go,” she said. “I ate 59 pancakes in 20 minutes. I stopped halfway through to get a side of bacon because I got sick of the pancakes. Yeah [I won that event too], it’s a regional thing. I just did it because I wanted the free IHOP gift card.”
“I honestly, the whole time I ate I never even looked up from my plate. Honestly, for all three rounds I never looked up, I never paid attention. I didn’t know where I was and I told my girls, I didn’t want to know what place I was in, I didn’t even want to know a single number. I didn’t care, I didn’t want to know.”
“I can swallow just about any food whole. If you take time to chew it, that just takes time, so I ‘d rather just swallow it.”
