Driver Flees After Car Slams Into West Deptford Home

By Nicole Brewer

WEST DEPTFORD, N.J. (CBS) -- Talk about a rude awakening for a family in South Jersey Thursday morning.

An SUV slammed into a family's West Deptford home, just feet from where they're sleeping.

"I heard a loud bang. All my stuff went flying across the room," explained Aaron Collier, who was asleep in the basement when the red Chevy Blazer came barreling through his wall, nearly striking an oil tank.

Collier's first thought was his mom and stepdad sleeping upstairs.

"That's why I was panicked, I wanted to get them out of the house."

The main support on the right side of the home was struck by the car, causing significant structural damage that has displaced the family of three. No one inside the home was injured. The Collier family is expected to live with family in Toms River while their home in uninhabitable.

As for the driver, the Collier tells us they were nowhere to be found.

Collier says, "I actually went to see if they were okay."

A second person, possibly the passenger, turned themselves into police early Thursday morning. At least one occupant was taken to the hospital with injuries.

The incident remains under investigation.
