A Foot Of Snow Possible In Some Areas

By Kate Bilo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The snow has arrived, and it's already causing major problems across the area especially on the roads.

Snow began this morning around 9 a.m. for most of us, and has been falling heavily through the afternoon.

We are seeing bands of heavy snow setting up over a particular area and not moving much at all, leading to heavy snowfall rate and quick accumulations on the roads and any untreated surfaces.

As the storm continues to move slowly through the area this afternoon, the bands will continue to drop heavy accumulations sometimes at the rate of 1 to 2 inches an hour, and the problems will only intensify through the afternoon.

Our winter storm warning goes right through 6 o'clock tomorrow morning. So if you can get inside and not be out, that would be recommended.

We are forecasting a wide band of 6 to 12 inches of snow across the region, with locally higher amounts possible in the heavier bands, depending on where they set up later this afternoon and this evening.

We will continue to keep you informed on air, online, and across our network of radio stations so please stay tuned.
