Crews Responding To Transformer Explosion In Center City

PHILADELPHIA (CBS)—Crews are responding to a transformer fire at 19th and Spruce Streets in Philadelphia.

The fire department received calls reporting an explosion at 11:46 a.m. Friday morning.

Two loud explosions were reportedly heard in the area.

According to PECO, an issue occurred with underground electrical equipment in the area of 17th and Locust Streets and they now have crews on site to access, isolate and make repairs.

According to Philadelphia Police 17th-19th Spruce Street to Walnut Street in both directions is closed to pedestrian and vehicle traffic.

There are currently no customers without power in the area.
