NEW CASTLE, Del. (CBS) – A Delaware man has been arrested and charged with abusing his elderly mother.

Stephen Myers, 39, was arrested by New Castle County Police after they received a call from Christiana Medical Center reporting abuse to an elderly female on Sunday.

The officers arrived at the hospital and learned that the 79-year-old victim, who was unable to care for herself and relied heavily on her son, had been transported to the hospital by ambulance.

An investigation revealed that the victim had been mistreated and sustained injuries to her upper body.

Myers was arrested at his residence on Monday, where he was transported to New Castle County Police Headquarters and charged with intentional abuse, neglect, exploitation and mistreatment of an infirmed adult and assault in the second degree.

Myers was released on $8,000 unsecured bond and issued a no contact order.
