PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — The snow and frigid temperatures weren’t enough to break the Eagles playoff fever gripping fans in and around Philadelphia.
For dozens of the faithful, Mother Nature took a back seat today to bleeding green at an Eagles pep rally in center city.
“I trudged in here just to be here for the pep rally, ” said Debra, who lives in West Philadelphia.
“I don’t believe this,” said Steven, from Mt. Airy. “I’m out here in this weather! Woo.”
But eight-year-old Jose was unfazed: “I’m not cold.”
The frigid air was filled with familiar chants at the early afternoon rally in front of the Municipal Services Building, across from City Hall. Fans joined Eagles’ cheerleaders, the mascot Swoop, and team president Don Smolenski on the shoveled pavement.
Mayor Nutter declared today “NFC East Champions, FLY EAGLES FLY Day,” and stirred up the fans:
“We play no matter what the weather conditions! Because we’re ready! Because we’re Eagles! We’re Philadelphia’s fans!” the mayor shouted, wearing a bright green Eagles warmup jacket.
And the fans were inspired to confidence.
“54 to 10 — taking it to the bank, baby!” said Debra.
