Poll: 40% Of Americans Report Getting Less Than 7 Hours Of Sleep Per Night
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – If getting more sleep is one of your New Year's resolutions for 2014, you're not alone.
A new poll from Gallup reveals that 40% of Americans get less than seven hours of shut-eye a night.
And while that hasn't changed much from previous polls done over the last 20 years or so, Americans got much more sleep in the 1940s, when 84% reported getting at least seven hours.
Unsurprisingly, older Americans get the most rest. Sixty-seven-percent of those over 65 say they sleep more than seven hours a night.
Adults under 50, meanwhile, were the most likely to report needing more sleep.
Experts recommend between seven and nine hours of sleep per night for adults.
