PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – If Santa were paid a salary, he’d be making a pretty penny. He’d also be getting a slight raise this year.
According to Insure.com’s annual Santa Index, the big man in red would be making $137,795 for delivering presents to the world’s children in 2013 – up 2% from last year.
But not everyone feels St. Nick should get paid that much – or at all. In fact, 37% of survey respondents feel Santa should do what he does for free, considering it “charity.”
Others feel Mr. Claus just isn’t making enough. Twenty-seven-percent say Santa should earn a whopping $1.8 billion a year, approximately $1 for every child under the age of 15 in the world, and 10% feel he should be paid at least $200,000.
Insure.com says it compiled Santa’s estimated salary by analyzing wage data for his many jobs, including running his workshop, managing the elves and checking his list multiple times – a whole lot of paperwork, for sure.
