PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A Boston man is in Philadelphia this morning, just one stop as he walks across the country in support of the troops.

Carl Wentworth will be the first to tell you, going from Boston to Philadelphia by foot isn’t that easy, “I’m 47 years old and my knees are a little week and my feet do get sore. My blisters are turning into calluses right now.”

And there’s still a long, long way to go for Carl on his journey called “Walking For Heroes”, those heroes being the men and women in uniform. “All of the men and women who fight for our freedom are and will always be the backbone of this country.”

He left Boston on Veterans Day and hopes to get to Los Angeles by Memorial Day 2014. “This is going to end when I get to the Pacific Ocean. From sea to shining sea!”

He has a shopping cart full of supplies, lives off dollar burgers and uses his phone’s GPS to chart his course. He says he misses his family, especially his five sisters, but he keeps in touch with them and anyone else through Facebook. Click here to see his Facebook page.
