Weekend Box Office Report: Frozen Catches Fire With Audiences

By Bill Wine

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The national box office leader changed over the weekend.

Here's KYW movie critic Bill Wine with the Weekend Box Office Report.

The two Thanksgiving weekend box office leaders remained the same for another weekend, but this time they switched places.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Frozen finished one-two again, but it was the animated attraction, Frozen, that landed on top, earning an estimated $31 -million, while the Hunger Games sci-fi sequel was not far behind with $27-million.

The new Rust Belt drama, Out of the Furnace, with Christian Bale and Woody Harrelson, debuted in the distant third spot with $5-million.

Two more holdovers rounded out the top five: Thor: The Dark World totaled under $5-million, while Delivery Man earned under $4-million.

Overall, industry-wide totals were modest, although they topped those of a year ago.

Another sequel, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, opens next weekend and is expected to light it up at the box office.
