House Fire Kills Elderly Woman, Injures Companion

PHILADELPHIA (CBS)—An elderly woman was killed and a man was injured in a house fire at 1959 Stanley Street in Strawberry Mansion.

The fire broke out around 9 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke coming from the second story of the home, and once inside, crews discovered the woman dead in a bedroom.

The woman's companion was also injured in the blaze and was rushed to Temple University Hospital, where he is reportedly in stable condition.

Police later identified the two as 94-year-old Martha Frasier and 86-year-old Leroy Parker. They say the home appears to have been heated by a kerosene heater.

No working smoke detectors were found inside.
