Phila. Parking Authority Admits Its Web Site Info Was Too Grinchy

By Mike Dunn

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia Parking Authority today was trying to clear up confusion about how long its free Saturday holiday parking promotion runs.

The Parking Authority's web site and press release said the free parking at meters on Saturdays lasts through Christmas, but flyers and signs on kiosks says it lasts through New Year's Day, creating confusion over the Saturday after Christmas, December 28th.

PPA deputy executive director Rick Dickson says the 28th is free, and the web site was wrong.

"It was just a mistake," he tells KYW Newsradio, "but fortunately we found this before that New Year's weekend and will be able to get that information out to the public so that they know on that last Saturday of December parking will be free at meters after 11am as well."

So, again: free parking at meters and kiosks in the city after 11am on all four Saturdays in December.   All other parking regulations will be enforced.

Dickson said including that Saturday in the promotion is vital, since the Saturday after Christmas is traditionally a very big shopping day, with gifts to exchange and gift cards to use.
