Mom And Pop Shops Gear Up For Small Business Saturday
By Tim Jimenez
PHILADELPHIA (CBS)--As the holiday shopping season continues, today is dedicated to mom and pop. It's the fourth annual Small Business Saturday.
Beth Gibson is excited to put her little place on the radar.
"It becomes really easy, when you see a thousand commercials for all of the big box stores, to forget that there all of these independent places around."
She owns a vintage shop here in Old City called "More Than Old" on 3rd Street near Race. The past few years she says people have gone out of their way to stop by the neighborhood and support her and her neighbors.
"Which are returning money to our own local economy."
Beth says this year's theme is "Jewelry, Jazz and Juice."
Federal officials are hoping to top last year's success on this day.
The Small Business Association says shops across the country took in $5.5 billion in sales.
