Santa Express Arrives To Kick Of The Holiday Season

By Cherri Gregg

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Black Friday may kick of the holiday season for some, but for those under a certain age -- the season doesn't start until "you know who" arrives from the North Pole.

And that happened Friday, when Santa came to town -- on SEPTA.

The Santa Express traveled from the 69th Street station to 11th Street, delivering Santa Claus and his posse of elves, as well as hundreds of adoring young fans.

"It was fun. The elves and the Santa Claus, they were dancing and singing songs," this youngster said.

And others who were just young at heart.

"I get a thrill out of it too. I never had this when I was growing up."

A New Orleans-style string Band lead Santa through Market East, where he made the official count down to the holiday season.

And then of course, the kids stood in line to speak to Santa himself -- and put in those orders:

"I want a phone!"

"I want a car!"

"I want a unicorn!"

And finally, well wishes to go around.

"Merry Christmas!," said one girl.
