PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — An effort is under way to give military families a helping hand this holiday season, particularly those with a deployed loved one.

A gift card drive is underway and your help is needed. It’s called ‘Liberty Claus and it’s organized by Liberty USO.

Joe Brooks is the president of the USO of South Jersey and Pennsylvania. He says the suggested minimum gift card donation is $25.

“What we want to do is let the military families make the decisions for themselves. They know what their family needs best, and that gift card gives them that power and that flexibility to determine what their family needs this holiday season.”

Brooks says cards to big box stores or to grocery stores are great gifts.
