Former Pa. Senator Santorum's Movie Company Set To Release First Film

By Tony Romeo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A former Pennsylvania U.S. Senator and GOP presidential candidate is banking on a particular film in theaters this holiday season becoming a Christmas classic.

"The Christmas Candle" is the first movie to be distributed, although not produced, by EchoLight Studios -- a Christian studio now run by former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum, who just took over in June:

"Your initial foray says a lot about who you are as a company, and what you're trying to accomplish," Santorum says. "And I, in fact, thought we would wait at least a year before we put anything out in the theaters, because the things that we had that were being worked on when I took over the company, in my mind, were not really theatrical quality."

But Santorum believes he can have an impact with "The Christmas Candle" – the story of a minister who is skeptical of his flock's belief in a candle that produces miracles.

"It's not going to be easy...I realize that," Santorum said about being one of the country's highest profile conservatives, trying to fit in an industry whose biggest names are largely on the opposite side of the political spectrum.

Santorum says he spent about three months working on the film.
