New Jersey Man Admits 17 Armed Robberies
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -- A Newark man has admitted committing 17 armed robberies in Union, Essex and Bergen counties.
The heists took place between December 2012 and May 2013.
Thirty-year-old Bobby Dawson pleaded guilty in federal court Thursday to conspiring to commit robberies, committing an armed carjacking and firing his weapon during one of the robberies.
Authorities say Dawson and his conspirators stole cash, cigarettes and other items at gunpoint. In 15 of the heists, the victims were restrained with duct tape or zip ties.
During a robbery at a store in Maplewood in April, authorities say Dawson fired his handgun at a clerk before stealing $9,000.
His sentencing is scheduled for March.
