Police: Teen Ran Social Media 'Rats' Account

By Melony Roy

PHILADELPHIA (CBS)--The Philadelphia DA's office will try to prosecute a teenage boy as an adult, for posting information about a 2012 shooting on Twitter.

The teenager has been charged with witness intimidation and terroristic threats for a Twitter account that posted information about a 2012 southwest Philly shooting.

District Attorney Seth Williams says, "I don't care how old you are, if you intimidate witnesses in this city I'm going to come after you."

"I believe the actions of this teenager could have lasting repercussions on untold cases here in Philadelphia. Witness intimidation has reached near epidemic levels and we are very serious about not only stopping it but also prosecuting the criminals who are engaging in these despicable actions to the fullest extent of the law."

It is still unclear if the teen is connected to the "rats215" Instagram handle that got the attention of police for posting pictures of crime witnesses, but more details are expected at a detention hearing for the teen.
