Researchers Study ‘Fountain Of Youth’ Gene

By Dr. Brian McDonough, Medical Editor

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Do we have a gene that will allow us to live forever? Is there a so-called ‘fountain of youth’ gene?

There is an interesting report in the journal Cell. The latest research is in the field of stem cells. A national team of stem cell researchers has found that a gene called lin28a has a proven effect in mice – regrowing hair and tissue regeneration after injury.

According to their experiments, in adult mice reactivation of this gene could initiate regeneration amputated fingers and regrow hair. This is very important for wound healing…and, of course, the cosmetics industry.
