Investigation Underway After Man Fatally Struck By Police Patrol Car In Atlantic County

MULLICA TOWNSHIP, NJ (CBS) – The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office has announced an investigation into the death of a Hammonton man who was fatally struck by a Mullica Township Police patrol vehicle early Friday morning.

The accident happened while Officer Ryan Hutton was investigating the discovery of an abandoned vehicle found crashed into a pole and disabled on the northbound side of Weymouth Road in Mullica Township just before 5 a.m. Friday.

As the officer was patrolling the crash area, 44-year-old Frank Perri, Jr.; the alleged driver of the disabled car, reportedly entered the roadway directly in front of Officer Hutton's car and was struck.

Perri was pronounced dead at the scene, while Officer Hutton was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

An investigation into the circumstances of the crash is ongoing. Police ask anyone with information on the accident to call the Crash Investigations Unit at 609-909-7692.
