NJ Students Again Score High On National Test
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey students have again scored among the top in the nation in standardized tests often used to compare states' education systems.
New Jersey's 8th graders had the second-highest average score on the National Assessment of Educational Progress in both reading and math.
Fourth graders were tied for sixth in math and fourth in reading.
New Jersey students have improved slightly on some tests since 2011 and declined slightly on others.
While New Jersey students scored better than the national average, no more than 49 percent of students scored as proficient or above on any of the four exams.
Wide gaps remain between the performances of low-income students and others. But Hispanic 8th graders have made significant progress in closing the gaps with white students.
