Survey: Twitter Users Tend To Be Young, Mobile And Educated
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – While only a small percentage of U.S. adults get their news from Twitter, those that do tend to be young, mobile and well-educated.
That’s the takeaway from a new survey from the Pew Research Center, in collaboration with the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
While just 16% of U.S. adults use Twitter and only 8% get their news from Twitter, nearly half (45%) of the social media site’s users are between the ages of 18-29 and 40% have at least a bachelor’s degree.
Furthermore, just 2% of Twitter users are 65 and older, compared with 18% of the population and 7% of Facebook users.
And access to a mobile device was key – 85% of Twitter users who use the social media site to get news do so using their mobile device at least some of the time.
The Pew Center research was based on a survey of 5,000 U.S. adults. To see the full survey results, click here.
