3 On Your Side: Best Things To Buy in November

By Jim Donovan

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- To buy or not to buy.  How do you know when you're getting a really good price?  Well 3 On Your Side Consumer Reporter Jim Donovan heads straight to the experts to find out.

When the retail shopping experts at Dealnews.com examined November pricing trends, several things were certain.  First, cookware deals this month are red hot.  In fact there are 41 percent more deals in November than there were in October.  Mark LoCastro from Dealnews says, "Cookware, cutlery, small appliances, bakeware, pots and pans,  these are some of the best of the year prices."

Tools are a good buy right now too.  According to LoCastro, "Winter in general is a great time in general to buy tools and hardware for that matter.  We're talking about drills, wrenches, socket sets, drill bits, tool storage from these really big retailers,  Home Depot, Sears, Lowes."

Need a wedding dress down the road?  Dealnews.com found you may be able to snag a better deal now.  "Not a lot of weddings typically happen this time of the year, and so when demand is low for such items like a wedding dress that's when you have an opportunity to bargain with the boutique," says LoCastro.

Finally, if you have a sweet tooth, left-over trick or treat candy is priced to move.  According to LoCastro, "All these stores stock up on candy for Halloween, and now that Halloween has passed they have all this excess inventory so expect huge discounts on candy."

So what should you hold off on buying for now?  Toys.  The best deals on toys show up in mid-December.  So unless you're looking for a specific must-have toy, you're better off waiting until December if you're in search of a rock bottom price.
