PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Robinson Luggage, a landmark store on Broad Street, is closing up shop. The store will remain open until all of the inventory is sold, but it’s expected to close for good by the end of the year.

Folks are streaming in to take advantage of their liquidation sales.

“I am really, truly surprised because they’ve been such a part of this community for so many years that it’s a sad thing!”

Robinson Luggage Vice President Nancy Center says declining sales prompted the decision to close the store at Broad and Walnut.

“Unfortunately, the change in the retail environment unfortunately has forced the closure,” she says they decided to make this decision very recently.

What was that conversation like?

“Not fun, being that it’s a family-owned business and it was something we never wanted to have to do but at this point, unfortunately, we had no choice.”

And folks say this corner just won’t be the same without them here

“I’m sad! They’ve been here forever and it’s a staple on Broad Street!”
