BLOG: A Wild Start To November

By Steve Strouss

PHILADELPHIA (CBS)--A potent and fast moving storm system is blowing through the region this morning.

A Severe T-Storm Warning is in effect for coastal NJ until 11:45 a.m. and a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 2 p.m. this afternoon.

Gusty winds are exceeding 40 mph and that is knocking down trees and power lines across the area.

Some Peak wind gust so far today include Dover: 43 mph, Philadelphia 39 mph, Trenton 38 mph, Wilmington and Atlantic City 30 mph.

In addition the winds we've picked up between .25-.5" of rain and roads are wet and traffic is moving slow.

Watch for blowing debris in the streets and neighborhoods and it is a good idea to secure loose objects if they haven't been brought in or tied down.

The strong cold front will push off the coast later today and the sun will eventually return as the clouds break.

After a high of 72 degrees this morning, the mild air will eventually give way to more fall like conditions by the weekend with highs only in the 50s to start next week.
