Police Confirm Construction Worker Killed In Accident On GSP

BASS RIVER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) — State police say a worker at a Garden State Parkway construction site was killed this week when he was accidentally struck by a dump truck.

The accident at milemarker 50.1 in Bass River Township occurred just before noon Tuesday (see previous story).

Authorities say 46-year-old Donald Tomaio Jr. of Berkeley Township was working on the right side of the southbound lanes when he was hit. The truck was being driven by 56-year-old Michael Tedesco of Beachwood, who was backing up at the time.

The accident occurred on the southbound approach to the Bass River Bridge through Burlington County where construction has been ongoing since 2011 to redeck, repair and upgrade the bridge.

The accident investigation remains ongoing.
