UPDATE: Police ID Body Found In Marshland By US 13

NEW CASTLE, Del. (CBS)--Delaware State Police have positively identified the victim found in a marshland adjacent to the southbound lanes of US 13 in New Castle as John G. Heeney, 49, of Delaware City, Delaware.

Preliminary investigation by the Delaware State Police and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner positively identified Heeney through dental records.

An examination and autopsy conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner revealed no apparent trauma and no evidence of foul play at this time. The cause and manner of death is still under investigation.

The incident occurred Wednesday at approximately 10:50 a.m. as a billboard maintenance crew was working in a field in the area of the 100 block of South DuPont Highway and found the decomposing body.

Preliminary investigation indicated that the partially clothed, decomposing skeletal remains were located approximately 20 feet down a grass embankment.

Delaware State Police Detectives continue their investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding this incident. Traffic was not affected due to the investigation or recovery.
