Open Enrollment Underway For 2 Medicare Supplements

By Pat Loeb

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Open Enrollment is underway for two popular Medicare supplements. People over 65 can sign up for extra health and prescription drug coverage.

With all the attention on the new insurance marketplaces created by the Affordable Care Act, Advisor Harry Kahn says he's been getting one question a lot: "How does the Affordable Care Act affect my Medicare? And the reality is, it really doesn't. It's business as usual."

That's not to say the supplemental plans haven't changed. Medicare spokeswoman Lorraine Ryan says everyone with a plan should check to make sure it still meets their needs and budget.

"They may be able to find a plan that provides the coverage that they need at a more affordable cost so even if you're happy with the plan you have, it doesn't hurt to take a look at what's available to you."

You can compare plans at Medicare.gov.
