West Chester Man Charged With Indecent Assault Of Child

WEST GOSHEN, Pa., (CBS) -- West Goshen Police have arrested a West Chester man in connection with a sexual assault against a child that occurred 10 years ago.

Terry C. Smith, 63, was arraigned Friday on charges including Endangering Welfare Of Children, Indecent Assault, and Corruption Of Minors.

On April 3, police say they received a complaint from the victim who is now an adult.

According to police, the victim reported that Smith was in a position of authority and supervised the victim and other minor children when "sleepovers" occurred at Smith's home. The victim reported to police that during these "sleepovers" and other unsupervised occasions, Smith allegedly would have indecent contact with the victim in the overnight hours.

Police say the alleged assaults began during 2002 and continued over multiple occasions and ceased during 2004. Due to the elapsed time period of the offense and the maturation of the victim, police utilized current technological equipment and procedures to identify and corroborate the allegations.

Police say Smith admitted to his actions, citing that he was sexually attracted to the victim and he should not have succumb to his sexual urges towards the victim, who was 8-years-old at the time of the first alleged assault.

Police believe that this may be an isolated incident, but encourage individuals to come forward with any information or similar allegations against Smith.

Smith was committed to the Chester County Prison in lieu of posting $100,000 cash bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled on Oct. 22.
