Montco Woman Sentenced For Defrauding HUD

By Brad Segall

POTTSTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- A 47-year-old Montgomery County woman who admitted she falsified paperwork to collect more rental subsidies from the feds than she was entitled to is headed to jail for at least 30 days.

Tracey Warren of Pottstown, Pa. tearfully pleaded with the judge today to go easy on her, telling him she knew what she did was wrong but did it to provide the basics for her children.

The judge sentenced Warren to 1-23 months in prison, to be served on fifteen consecutive weekends.

Prosecutor Laura Adshead was pleased with the sentence.

"There was over $25,000 in restitution that's owed to them, and it was a period of four years that she was lying on her recertification paperwork," Adshead notes.

Prosecutors say the victims in cases like this are the taxpayers and the people who really need the money to help pay their rent.  They say Warren failed to notify authorities about who was living in her home and how much money she was making.
